Arz is a social work organization committed
to combating trafficking of persons for the purpose of sexual abuse
and commercial sexual exploitation in Goa. The organization works
both with the victims of commercial sexual exploitation, and also
against those who are perpetrators of this crime.
Modes of Commercial
Sexual Exploitation In brothel and hotel/lodge based commercial sexual
exploitation, victims are housed in a fixed location and customers
are solicited by pimps and brothel keepers. In street based commercial
sexual exploitation, the victims are forced, by the traffickers,
to solicit customers. In mobile commercial sexual exploitation,
victims are driven around in a vehicle by the traffickers and
soliciting is done by the traffickers' agents.
VOICE is a resource centre for research, documentation,
publication, short-films and audio-visual aids on anti-trafficking and
related issues. It was launched with the intention of studying the reasons
for the spread of commercial sexual exploitation, from Baina to other
parts of Goa, before intervention programmes can be initiated.
Arz documents the phenomenon of commercial sexual exploitation
prevailing in Goa in order to sensitize the various stake holders. The
staff is imparted training to develop audio-visual aids like documentaries
and short films with a special emphasis on trafficking of human beings
for the purpose of sexual abuse and exploitation.
